OPTIVIEW UNVEILS 56k MODEM SIMULATOR TOOL ON WEB SITE

Free "PageRacer" Compares Optimized Versus Non-optimized Download Speeds of Identical Web Pages

Dulles, VA (May 7, 2002)—OptiView Technologies, a leading provider of Web content optimization services, today unveiled a 56k modem simulator called "PageRacer," at www.optiview.com. The free tool enables site visitors on faster Internet connections to view Web pages through a simulated 56k connection.

Eighty percent of users access the Internet using a dial-up connection, which is causing them to abandon Web sites according to Zona Research.

"The impact of slow download times on business is indisputable and PageRacer shows businesses and service providers what dial-up customers encounter," says Tom Kirchman, OptiView founder and CTO. "When our customers see the faster page download times OptiView's products deliver, they become staunch supporters."

PageRacer uses a side-by-side viewing configuration to demonstrate the difference between downloading standard and optimized Web content. The right window frame displays a typical 56k modem connection, showing visitors any site they choose. The left frame downloads the same Web page after it is streamlined in real-time using automatic optimization technology. PageRacer works with any Web browser or operating system.

"The first step a Web site owner must take in fixing their site is admitting their site isn't perfect," says Vincent Flanders, Author of the newly released "Son of Web Pages that Suck." "The 56K modem simulator is an interesting tool because it shows how a Web site downloads for the majority of Web surfers. When your boss has a T1 connection he can't appreciate what a customer dialing in from overseas has to deal with. With this tool, he can see the problem."

PageRacer joins other free utilities in the "Cool Tools" section of OptiView's Web site—including a Line Speed Tester and Web site QuickScan—which validate the importance of optimizing Web content.
