OPTIVIEW TECHNOLOGIES ENHANCE WEB CODE COMPRESSION STANDARD
New Gzip+ Technology Reduces Page Sizes up to 90%
Dulles, VA (June 27, 2002)OptiView Technologies, a leading provider of Web content acceleration products and services, today announced their new Web code optimization technology called "gzip+." Gzip+ is based on the widespread open source gzip compression technology, which compresses Web pages and other documents on a Web site, significantly reducing the size of Web pages. Gzip+ combines OptiView's HTML optimization technology with standard gzip compression, streamlining Web pages up to 90%.
By building upon the industry standard gzip technology, gzip+ is supported on every popular Web serverincluding Apache, IIS, and Linuxand works with all recent versions of Internet Explorer, Netscape, and Opera browsers. As an enhancement to the core gzip technology, OptiView gzip+ files are saved with the standard ".gz" extension and work with all gzip-capable systems.
"Any significant optimization of Web content reduces bandwidth costs and speeds page downloads," says Tom Kirchman, OptiView founder and CTO. "By combining gzip+ with our proprietary image optimization technology, we offer the significantly-enhanced capabilities our customers are looking for."
OptiView incorporated gzip+ into its NetCelerate and PreFlight products in early Spring 2002, and the technology was recently added into OptiView’s ASP product, SiteScan.
"Within five years, Web content acceleration technologies will become the most differentiating component of Web content delivery," says Todd Girvin, President & COO OptiView. "Gzip+ offers further evidence of our ability to innovate on top of rapidly evolving content acceleration technologies, keeping us at the forefront of the industry."
